Collection: Al Zahrawi
Abul Qasim Khalaf ibn Al-Abbas Al-Zahrawi (936-1013), also known as Abulcasis. Of his most famous works is "Al-Tasrif" (The Method of Medicine), which became a central part of the medical curriculum in European countries for many centuries. Al Zahrawi was a revolutionary physician and surgeon who designed and illustrated more than 200 surgical instruments such as syringes, droppers, scalpels, and forceps. He is credited for discovering the use of catgut for both internal stitching and for storing drugs to be swallowed, known today as capsules.
