Collection: Fatima AlFihri

Born in the Ninth Century, Fatima spent her entire inheritance on building a mosque and learning centre in Al-Qarawiyin in Fez, Morocco in 859. It is the oldest existing, continually operating higher educational institution in the world. Studies included astronomy, the Quran, theology, law rhetoric, prose and verse writing, logic, arithmetic, geography, medicine, grammar, Muslim history, chemistry and mathematics. It became the number one university in Morocco with scholars and students from all over the world. Some of the most famous alumni include Ibn Khaldun, famous historian and sociologist and author of "Al Muqaddimah", Maimonides, a Jewish philosopher and influential Torah scholar, and Muhammad Al-Idrisi, a geographer who drew the Tabula Rogeriana, one of the oldest world maps.
